Chronic Joint Pain Without Surgery
When to ask about PRP, acupuncture, or StemWave therapy.
Persistent knee, shoulder, hip, or back pain can narrow daily life quickly. But a treatment name is not a diagnosis. Joint pain may involve tendons, ligaments, cartilage, a prior injury, arthritis, referred pain, or a condition that needs a different type of care. The most useful first step is understanding the pattern and ruling out concerns that need urgent attention.
Start with an assessment
A clinician may ask when pain started, what movements provoke it, whether there is swelling, locking, weakness, numbness, fever, or a recent injury. They may recommend imaging, referral, rehabilitation, medication review, or another approach. New inability to bear weight, a hot swollen joint, severe trauma, fever, or loss of bladder or bowel control requires prompt medical care.

Where these options fit
PRP, acupuncture, and focused shockwave therapies such as StemWave may be discussed for selected conditions, but candidacy, evidence, risks, costs, and alternatives differ. No option is a guaranteed substitute for diagnosis, physical therapy, surgery, or other physician care. A personalized plan may also include gradual movement, strength, sleep, and recovery habits.
